Update 16.2 for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central online 2020 release wave 1

Here is an overview of some of the changes from the minor update being released over the next couple weeks, BC16.2.  Keep in mind that this update will be rolled out automatically, unlike the major releases that allow us to choose dates for roll out.  An e-mail will be sent to the contacts within the Notifications areas once it has been completed.

  • Migration from BC14 On Prem (April 2019 Release) can utilize the cloud migration extension to migrate data to BC15 online
  • New telemetry insight will provide detailed information about errors occurring during updates that will allow partners to quickly fix:
    • Codeunit where exception is thrown
    • AL stack trace
    • Exception message
  • Ability to hide web client header, which allows:
    • Freeing up of screen space
    • Embedding of BC web client in other web applications
      • Limiting users access to functionality within header – ability to sign out or switch to different Apps
  • User experience improvements:
    • Line items are now context-aware – actions will not be available, e.g. Item Tracking, if the “Type” is not appropriate
    • Reverse Register is now context -aware – will only show as available if it is possible to reverse a selected G/L register
    • Document status – color coding of Status fields on documents to indicate if it can be edited
    • Mandatory fields on journals, Document Number and Posting Date, have a red asterisk to indicate they are required
  • Use modern authentication to connect to Common Data Service and Dynamics 365 Sales
  • More easily Manage Apps for updates and hot fixes – available to partner and customer admin – this feature is being gradually implemented so some Apps may not be ready for this feature
